Excellent movie!

Last night I watched North & South, and it was so good that I just had to blog about it!

Now, this isn't the North & South miniseries that takes place during the American Civil War(starring Patrick Swayze). This is the BBC production of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel. I have only read one of Gaskell's books: Wives and Daughters, and looking back now I am not sure I even finished it. But I did watch the miniseries production of that book. I determined that I don't really like Wives and Daughters, despite all the raves I heard about it. That poor Molly loves Roger(?) throughout the whole story, but he doesn't love her. And she is treated like a door mat in so many situations. And Roger doesn't even start to love Molly until he is rejected by Cynthia. That isn't a very lovely "love story" to me.

But oh, was this story different! Right away I was intrigued by the plot of Margaret Hale's country family being uprooted to the industrious city of Milton. And when Miss Hale sees Mr. Thornton for the first time...well, I can't even describe it adequately. Will they become a match? Will they be bitter enemies? I knew that I was going to like the movie right there. The acting was superb all around, too. And the train scene at the end of the movie! Oh, it tugged at your heart strings! I literally felt my heart swelling while watching. I couldn't help but cry.

If you like period dramas that end happily (and let me tell you that they are my favorite), then I highly recommend this movie. Watch it! ☺

We have North and South. I liked it the first, hm...maybe ten times I watched it, but now I can't stand watching it anymore. :S I'm not exactly sure why. But I do always watch the dinner party, "look back at me", and the train scene. :)
