Weekly Poll Results

We have a winner! Okay, we have TWO winners! Last week I asked the question, "What is your beverage of choice?" Water and coffee tied with the majority of the answers. In honor of one of the winners, here are some facts about coffee (taken from the Roast and Pot Coffee company's website):
  • Coffee is the most popular drink worldwide with over 400 billion cups consumed each year.
  • About half of all American adults have a cup of coffee to start their day.
  • 57% of coffee is drunk at breakfast; 34% between meals and 13% at other meals.
  • The USA is the world's largest consumer of coffee.
  • In Greece and Turkey, the oldest person is almost always served their coffee first.
  • Our sense of smell, more than any of our other senses makes our final judgement on coffee.

I found the last fact fascinating because I don't like coffee; never have. Growing up I was often greeted with the smell of coffee brewing upon my waking in the morning. This smell was repugnant to me, and as a result I didn't want to taste the brew. As an adult I thought I would try it again to see if my tastes have changed. Verdict---►nope. ☺

But to those who chose coffee you'll be delighted to know that coffee drinkers have 1/3 less asthma symptoms compared to non-coffee drinkers. AND if you are a woman living in Turkey you have the legal right to divorce your husband if he doesn't provide you with your daily quota of coffee. "Oh the horror!" *wink*
